Here's a few things people often ask me

Is it confidential?

Yes, confidentiality is essential for therapy. The only times I would break confidentiality are with my clinical supervisor. Even here I would only use a first name, and my supervisor is bound by the same strict confidentiality as me so any information would not go any further. The only other time I may break confidentiality is if I really thought someone was going to get seriously hurt, and if that was the case I’d discuss it with you first.

Where do sessions take place?

We can work outside, online or in a therapy room in Skipton. The room I use is in the Divergent Space complex in Victoria Street, Skipton. If we choose to work outside, I have a few locations I know well and use regularly around Skipton and the southern Yorkshire Dales. Wherever we choose to work, we need to decide at least 24h beforehand.

If we're working outside, what if we meet someone we know?

This might be a concern for you, especially if we're working close to where you live. If this is the case we can agree beforehand what we might say and if/how we might introduce each other. We can work with whatever feelings come up from an interaction like this, as it often enriches the work.

What is supervision?

Every therapist has a supervisor. This means there is someone to offer a different perspective on the work. I'm a human, not a robot, with my own ways of processing things, my own past history and upbringing, so it's important to be able to disentangle my processes from yours. To achieve this, I have regular therapy myself, and I rely on a supervisor to help me see what I might be blind to, and to help the work to progress.

I don't have a car, how can I access outdoor therapy?

I feel passionately that therapy should be accessible to everyone, and owning a vehicle shouldn't be a barrier to this.  One of the great things about working outdoors is the flexibility, we're not tied down to one location so we can arrange a meeting place that you can easily get to.

How much does it cost and how do I pay?

£40 per hour session. This reduced rate reflects my position as a UKCP therapist in advanced training.
